I used an old egg carton and placed these little pods in for my seeds this year to start indoors (especially since Colorado weather wants to be picky) so nice and easy to do. I definitely recommend for starting your new garden.

Attractive, naturally pest resistant, helps maintain moisture and it smells good! I live in a really hot and dry part of California, so this stuff is a great choice!

Excellent for retaining moisture

Each spring, we attempt to plant some various items, from produce, to herbs, flowers, and various plants. I don't always do so great keeping them alive, but having a great base product to plant seeds into, has seemed to help tremendously this year. We have various herbs that have grown and been used and a few veggies. They did need to be transplanted, but starting with cocobale, was a great start to our small indoor garden! They are still alive months later!

I used these for some sunflowers, an annual and perennial mix of wildflowers, and some yucca seeds. I wanted to try it on different types of seeds to gauge the results. These are made for use in soil or hydroponic gardens and are primarily made of peat moss with a small amount of binder. They can also be used to sprout cuttings. 
Within 3 days the wildflowers were sprouting. Those normally take 7 to 14 days to germinate. Within 5 days the sunflowers, and I am still waiting for the yucca seeds, but they take forever if you get any results at all. 
The package comes pre-moistened so they are ready to use as soon as they are opened, and there are 50 of the plugs in each package.
Each plug has a hole in the middle. I put some seeds on top and pushed them in the hole. I figured out that they will rip if you push too hard or have large fingers. I then started using an ink pen to push the seeds in the hole and that worked out a lot better. Then I lightly watered them.
They made it so much easier to start my plants this year. I just put them in a pan I wasn't using. I didn't have to buy soil and pots and make a big mess. Next week I'll take them out and pop them right in the garden plug and all. Couldn't be any easier than that. I'm going to go get some more of these so I can expand my little garden now that I know how easy it will be.

Really speeds up germination!

I received a bag of soil seed starters with 50 plugs to place seedlings into. I am very pleased with this product I was able to plant seedlings I pulled out of my daughters yard into these. I later transferred them to an empty egg crate and they are growing beautifully. They are actually surpassing my expectations. I will place them in a larger pot once they grow a few more inches and then move them to the ground. If I would have left them continue to grow where they came up the mower would have mowed them down. My bag arrived slightly damp and it made it easy to put the little seedlings into it. Very thankful for these as I have many other items I plan on starting in them for next year. They come in zip top style bag. Which I will store in the garage til next planting season.

Used to plant Japanese maple seedlings

This bale expands a lot. It holds water well. It is a Good Medium to start plants in. It really does expand a lot. I think it will be good to mix with potting soil to put in my flower beds as well. Versatile for folks who grow plants & flowers!

Good Medium for Plants

Easy to work with this item as it acts just like soil but without the soil smell and the messiness. I have never heard of this imitation before, but coco bale does seem to replace soil pretty well so far. I have started planting the bell pepper seeds in the pot so hopefully, I can see fruition soon enough, at least something. The planter is placed inside the home these days but the coco bale does not give off any bad smell in the house, which I am very glad about. The product came moist and does not seem to dry up quickly. Therefore, we don't intend to water the pot too often. The color is a very dark brown, much like soil itself. Be aware that you may not be able to plant seeds that specifically require the nutrients/characteristics that only soil contains, so definitely do your research for what seeds are appropriate with coco bale. Overall, I am happy with the product because I don't like to work with dirty soil, and this product is a great substitution.
