Viking Cylinders Lightweight Composite Propane Tank is designed to replace heavy propane cylinders. It s 50% lighter than steel and comes with a comfortable ergonomic handle that allows for stacking and easy carrying. The outer walls are translucent, allowing you to see exactly how much propane is left in the tank. Each cylinder has a wide, stable base that prevents it from tipping over. Rugged, noncorrosive 3-layer composite.Unlike steel and aluminum tanks, Viking Cylinders will not BLEVE in a fire. BLEVE is the technical abbreviation for Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion. In layman s terms this means the cylinder will not explode in a fire. Instead, the resin will burn off and the plastic liner and casing will melt. The LPG will then breathe through the cylinder wall and burn in a controlled manner.Specifications: Unfilled Cylinder Weight/Ship Weight: 11.5 lbs Propane Capacity: 17 lbs Exact Propane Capacity: 16.85 lbs Propane Volume at 60° F: 4.05 gallons Butane Capacity: 18.70 lbs Water Capacity: 40.4 lbs Height: 18.3 inches Diameter: 12 inchesView Filling Certificate

I purchased these Ragasco tanks in 2014. They changed names to Viking some time back "I think". These are worth every single penny with three caveats.1, You only get 4-5 gallons per fill where as steel is 7 gallons.2, finding a filler can be frustrating.3, They must be inspected every five years "AFTER", "AFTER" the expiration of the fifteen year manufacturer build date. I just got them inspected a couple of years back and there has been no problem. See pics!I use them in my truck camper and they are at least half the weight of the 20 lb. steel tanks. To a guy like me who doesn't go far from home and lives in the south "Who doesn't run the heater much" the lack of the extra propane has never been a problem.I don't know of any problems other than the three I listed. I also take extremely good care of my stuff.
I got the tank today 5/5/23 and noticed it has to be reinspected in 5 years. Ok fine. Then I noticed my inspection date on the tank started 11/22 so I lost basically half a year. Seems like I’m due a percentage back or a tank where I get a full 5 year service like the ad says but I know that’s probably not going to happen so a 1 star review it is. Kinda pricey for it not to be what it’s suppose to be.
The cylinder has been great, I have had no issues with performance since purchasing in 2016. I especially enjoy the lightweight construction, as we typically haul it around for camping and backyard BBQ's, and the increased safety factor is nice too. My only complaint about the cylinder is that they are not widely accepted/used/familiar, and I hope the company can do a bit more to encourage wider acceptance. Every time I fill it up, I get some hesitance on behalf of the person filling (although they always fill it), and I am wondering how much of a hassle it will be for me to have someone visually inspect it and recertify it when that is due. The Viking website lists the nearest site for inspection/recertification about 120miles from me...although the site also provides instructions for a local company to be able to provide the visual inspection and recertification if they are willing to go through the process to do so.
This so much better than the typical steel tank. This is lightweight and well constructed. Empty, it can easily be lifted by two fingers, it's not appreciably heavier when full. The semi-transparent composite tank makes it easy to see the tank level. We bought this for our RV and it's a perfect size.
