Leyland Cypress Tree

I planted 4 leyland trees approx 4’ tall in February. All planted exactly as instructed late February zone 8. 3 appear to be thriving. 1 arrived with a few dead brown branches. I trimmed them appropriately. The tree has continued to struggle. In March I removed all of the fully dead branches. More dead have replaced them. I emailed FGT and promptly received a response with a plethora of questions directed at all the things I could have done wrong (had I not followed the instructions), that would lay the blame on me. Not one suggestion of customer service value. I am already deciding what to do to replace one of 2 beautiful cherry trees I planted last year, that died over the winter. I did not buy the warranty. So that one is on me. But, I previously owned a commercial greenhouse. I have planted hundreds of trees and shrubs, etc through the years. The cherry is the first I ever lost. Again, it is on me because I did not purchase the warranty. I also did not purchase it for the Leyland cypress (at that time did not know cherry had died), and had a long successful history. But, I did not appreciate the tone of the response when I reached out less than 2 months after purchase to ask for assistance or replacement since the tree arrived in bad shape. Even though the other trees of more than $1000 from FGT are still alive, the accusatory nature over the condition of a recently purchased $59 tree , plus the death of the cherry tree -when it’s mate planted exactly same conditions 25’ away is great, left an extremely bad taste with me. I’m ready to shop elsewhere. I certainly will stop touting the virtues of FGT to neighbors in this new subdivision as they make planting decisions.

The Trees I ordered 10 Leyland Cypress and one 5 in 1 Plum tree arrived in excellent shape. The Plum tree was planted a week later and it is blooming already. The trees look good, I will be able to plant the Leyland trees in late Feb, the trees arrived early Feb. I have them on the back deck and have been watering them at least twice week.

We went through a fire on our property just over two years ago. I planted these cypress trees in January 2022. Some of them are over 7 feet tall now and they were 1 foot tall when I bought them. I am more than pleased with the trees that I got, and how fast they are growing. We are getting some privacy back and it’s going to be beautiful, there’s already a huge improvement. At fast growing trees they talk to you and help you pick the right trees and plants for your property and your zone. Their warranty is amazing also!
