Snags easilyBetsyThis cover snags very easily. It also stains easily. I've tried washing it, but the stains do not come out.1
Strong and softJenniferThe Uppland cover is strong AND soft, and I love the flexibility of purchasing it in different colors. Buying a variety when you get your sofa will extend its life and offer decorating flexibility.4
A quality dip from Ektorp coversShannonI have an Ektorp sectional in my den and the Uppland 3 seat sofa and love seat in my living room. The difference in the quality of the covers is distinct and noticeable. I have had the living room pieces for a year and they need to be replaced already. They pill so easily, get baggy, and rip at seams. Meanwhile I expect the ektorp covers to last several more years at least. They are much thicker material, don't stretch and sag over time, and you can flip the cushions as they are fully upholstered in both sides, whereas on the Uppland they are only one sided. I like the Uppland couch itself but the covers are a thumbs down. 2
Great for large familiesTearaI am a former user of the Ektorp Sofa. I now own two Uppland Sofas for the living room and one Uppland loveseat for my bedroom. I love that they are longer and more sturdier than the Ektorp. I love the colors. I own the beige and now white for both sofas. The selling point for me is always the ability to take off the covers and wash everything. I love the versatility of the colors. The Uppland sofa seats four adults comfortably or 5 children. I am 240 Pounds and yes 4 adults can still sit on the Uppland. Assembling was definitely a breeze. It has 6 bolts and screws just like the Ektorp (3 for each side of sofa). If you loved the Ektorp, then the Uppland is a better replacement. 5
Uppland not quality like Ektorp was :-(VanessaI had the Ektorp sofa and covers 2011-2021! And the cover & couch look awesome. I have had the Uppland two years and it’s shredded and horrible. IKEA: please fix the quality and make them like you used to make the Ektorp2
Uppland Couch cover RustMelanieWe love the color. We put it on our Ektorp and it works fine. It's very warm colored and looks beautiful! 5
Uppland sofa JenniWe got the full size (2) and they were very easy to put together. Totebo is our slipcover and we love it. I was hesitant in the store because it has small black squares but in our house you can’t see them, it’s just a nice neutral color. They are firmer than I’d like but hopefully they’ll soften up. Overall, happy with them! What we are most happy with is the customer service. One of the couches arrived with a crack in it and it was super easy to schedule a swap within days. They came to us and took the broken on and left the new one at no charge. 4
New material looks cheapKathrynIKEA changed the material from mostly cotton to mostly polyester and its looks much cheaper looking. 1
Great Couch!Marthacomfortable, sturdy, all around super buy5
Uppland SofasSusanThe couches were easy to put together. The slipcovers were not. Because the covers are so tight, they appear to be ill-fitted and too small. I've been told they loosen up as cushions settle in but I'm skeptical. Wish they made slipcovers for Uppland sofas in stretchier fabric or looser in design.4
Fabric requestAdamIkea, can you please provide the fabric from the Ektorpt sofa cover—Lofaleet Beige— for the Uppland sofa covers? I have 1 Ektorp and 2 Upplands and would love to put the Lofaleet Beige cover on my Uppland sofas!2
Uppland chairJudiI love it. So happy with my purchase.5
Itchy and low qualitySusanI’m so disappointed with these UPPLAND covers. I’ve always had the nice cotton Ektorp cover and loved them. I have the gray, which is like polyester with a horrible feel to it. Hate it, not soft at all. I also have the white one which is not stark white like the Ektorp one, but it looks like a white that’s been sitting around for a long time and yellowed. The fabric is more like a cotton though, so it’s better than the gray. Like so many others, I wish they kept the Ektorp sofa and covers.1
Upland sofaDonNice soft couch.5
Great productJayeLove my Uppland sofa. Being able to remove the soiled cover and put a new one on is very convenient5
Slipcover is awfulNoreenLongtime IKEA fan, replaced our Ektorps with 2 Upplands. They’re comfy enough, but the quality of the slipcover fabric is very lacking. Pilly, gets thread pulls easily, and the seat cushions can’t be flipped because they used a less expensive fabric on the bottoms. Really not up to IKEA’s usual quality.3
Upland coverDeborahI bought this Uppland Couch because I really Liked my Friends that she has. I am disappointed that my two covers I ordered isn’t like the one she has. My covers are more rough (like outdoor material) and VERY WRINKLY, so I am hoping IKEA will bring back the older material (like what’s on my friends Uppland Couch) so I will REALLY LOVE THIS COUCH! I am going to make do with it in hopes IKEA will see all of these complaints and do the right thing by getting the other covers back in. It’s very cozy to lay on except the roughness of the cover. I do love it because I have two cats and I can wash when needed. I have washed my covers and dried and Ironed them AND STILL WRINKLY!!!!3
Big Bang for your buck!!EmilyI had been hemming and hawing about buying 2 couches for many thousands of dollars that I knew would get dirty and worn out quickly with all the family/traffic in our home. Also, many of the couches I was considering had months of lead time and I really wanted my couches NOW. I thought Ikea couches looked and felt good in the store but I was hesitant that they wouldn't be too good given the vastly lower price than all the other couches we were considering. Well, I went and picked up 2 of the Uppland couches with white slipcovers and hauled them home with my 16 year old's help. I hired a fantastic task rabbit guy to set them up and VOILA!! my living room is now perfect. I'm sitting on the couch as I type this review and I'm 100% thrilled with these couches. I think I will buy an extra set of slipcovers, either another set of white, or many a different color for fun. Run don't walk, to get your Uppland couches!! The Uppland chair looks really nice too!!5

Our take on cotton

We use cotton in many of our products, from sofas and cushions to bed linen and mattresses. It is a soft, durable, and renewable fiber that breathes and is good at absorbing moisture. All these great qualities make cotton one of our most important materials, but it isn’t without its challenges, much having to do with conventional farming methods that negatively impact the environment and poor working conditions for farmers. With our size and production volumes, we want to drive change in the cotton industry.

Working together to drive change

Each year, IKEA uses around 0.5 percent of all cotton grown around the world. This may not seem like a lot, but the number is big enough to drive change in the industry. For many years, we have been working with partners and stakeholders globally to transform conventional large-scale cotton farming and set social and environmental standards for cotton production. As an example, we helped set up the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) who runs the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future. Today, more than 110,000 farmers have adopted more sustainable farming practices within IKEA projects.

Ensuring compliance throughout the value chain

All IKEA products are produced in accordance with the IKEA IWAY Standard, our Supplier Code of Conduct. It sets out the minimum environmental and social standards expected from our suppliers, including compliance with local laws. We do not accept any form of forced labor, child labor or treatments in breach of our supply chain requirements. Our cotton teams across the globe ensure that all cotton used in IKEA products meets the demands of compliance in our supply chain. By having teams on the ground in areas where it has previously been challenging to work responsibly, we can challenge the traditional ways of working and improve the industry. If we discover that we are acting in places where we cannot ensure our requirements are being met, we follow-up on the ground and drive change.

Material

What is cotton?

Cotton is one of the world's most appreciated and used natural fibers. Textiles in cotton are soft, hardwearing and can be washed at high temperatures. They are also good at breathing and absorbing moisture – making them pleasant to wear close to the body. Today at IKEA we use more and more recycled cotton and strive to make sure that all the new cotton we use has been grown and produced with less and less amounts of pesticides, fertilizers and water.
