Native to the Ohio Valley through to Missouri, viburnum dentatum v. deamii and both Glitters and Glows are hardy to Zone 4 to 8, creating a wide range of growing habitat in the United States. Treasured for their unique blue/black berries that provide late fall and winter interest in your landscape if the birds don’t eat them all, viburnums are a vigorous native shrub that is not over utilized in the home landscape. Perhaps it's always been the frustration of not knowing that they need a pollinator. These lovely medium size shrubs will thrive in full sun with some shade, or in full sun, making them a versatile landscape shrub for smaller yards and woodland gardens.
Glitters & Glows Viburnum Care
Viburnum prefer a slightly acidic to neutral soil pH, 5.8 to 6.5, and prefer a loamy rich moist soil. It does adapt to most soil that drains well, though. It is also adaptable to a full sun location and a partly sun location. This is an ideal woodland edge shrub where the sun meets the shadows. Coastal gardeners will appreciate its salt tolerance and all gardeners will appreciate its easy maintenance requirements. When planting out, amend native soil only if it is heavy and compacted and does not drain well. Use of a controlled release fertilizer should be all that is needed throughout the season. Water when it is very dry, but this hardy shrub is fairly heat and drought tolerant.
Prune only when needed to remove dead wood and even then, be selective as the flowers are produced each spring on old wood. Excessive pruning will sacrifice flowers and berry production for the following spring. Winter protection is generally not needed as these are hardy in all but the harshest winters. A thick layer of pine bark mulch can be used to cover the root zone if low temperatures are a concern.

Space your plants about 48 to 60 inches apart, and remember to plant the second half of this pair of shrubs within 50 feet of the first one. They will remain as a medium size shrub topping out at about 60 inches tall and wide. As a mass planting for a hedge or specimen in your wildlife gardens, you will appreciate the year long beauty this unique shrub will give you.

Hungry animals, drought, poor soil conditions, over watering, diseases & pests are all good examples of what can cause plants to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.
The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.
Winter to Early Spring
We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.
Summer
If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.
Fall into Winter
We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!
